My Father’s Daughter – Olivia Vedder, Eddie Vedder & Glen Hansard

If you’re a Pearl Jam fan like me you’ll have been hearing about this for a little while and probably couldn’t wait for it to come out… and now you cannot wait for the whole album featuring the usual suspects, Eddie Vedder along with Glen Hansard and Cat Power, both featured on Eddie’s album Ukulele Songs ten years ago (what?!).

If you have no clue what I’m talking about, Sean Penn‘s directed (and starred in!) a movie called Flag Day based on the book Flim-Flam Man: The True Story Of My Father’s Counterfeit Life by Jennifer Vogel and, like he did with 2007’s Into the Wild, commissioned Vedder to compose the soundtrack. I mean, why wouldn’t he? I can’t think of many people more suited for the job…

But there’s more! The first song you can listen to from the soundtrack is My Father’s Daughter, penned by Eddie and Glen and sung by none other than…the father’s daughter herself, Olivia Vedder, lending her warm, heartfelt vocals perfect for the song!

And the family affair doesn’t stop there. Sean Penn also enlisted HIS own kids Dylan and Hopper Penn to share the screen with him.

Honestly, just this group alone makes me want to get all over this project!

“That was a great, powerful project to have laid at our feet during all of this,” Vedder told Howard Stern last year of working on the “Flag Day” music amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “All three of us had to do most of the recording by ourselves — I mean, literally by ourselves. Most of us either have kids or elders we look after, so it was no joke. But with Sean at the helm, and some great performances in the film, and a great story, that was a powerful thing to have the opportunity to work on.”
