TWENTY FOUR years ago today this soundtrack came out! Long-story short, @pearljam's manager, Kelly Curtis' long time friend Cameron Crowe rewrote the old script for Singles and added parts for real Seattle musicians like my heroes Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard who ended up in the fictitious band Citizen Dick fronted by Matt Dillon (who really was a dick in the movie!). You can also spot local bands at the time in the background like @soundgarden, @mudhoney_ and @aliceinchains. 📽 • • • #trivia #funfact #soundtrack #ost #singles #90s #seattle #subpop #cameroncrowe #pearljam #soundgarden #aliceinchains #movie #yuppie #mattdillon #bridgetfonda #grunge #chriscornell #mudhoney
But the “Seattle sound” wasn’t going to be only heard in the soundtrack. During the rewrite, Crowe immersed himself in the grunge music scene spending a lot of time with Pearl Jam & co. for inspiration. The influence was such that the director actually wrote parts for some of them with Jeff, Eddie and Stone featuring as members of the fictitious band Citizen Dick, fronted by Cliff Poncier, played by Matt Dillon (who really was a dick in the movie!)
