I don’t know about you, but my mind is always running a million miles per hour and it’s SO hard to stop on a subject without quickly jumping onto the next and the following and so on…everything reminds me of something else and this game of join the dots happens at the speed of light.

I was writing some notes for a song when I got stuck on “day/away/say/stay”…sway. Wait a minute, remember that song “Sway“? Who was the artist again? Oh, here it is, Bic Runga! What soundtrack was that on again?* Oh, wait, remember Toyshop?

*it was American Pie! 😂

At this very moment I find myself listening to an album from 2016 I didn’t know existed from an English-singing Brazilian band called TOYSHOP I first heard of back on the days of MTV and TRL (Disk MTV for us in Brazil!) and all that. It was the year 2000, I was introduced to the video below and proceeded to spend the next days/months writing down the words to the song on my notebook anytime classes got boring so I could remember how to sing along to this song that would be stuck in my head forever (I just realised this happened 21 years ago. TWENTY ONE YEARS. That’s a full grown adult, wtf!).

The internet wasn’t then how it is now and it wasn’t so straightforward to find any info about the bands you wanted to learn about. For a long time I thought they were from LA only to discover many years later on yet another random day when the song came to mind that they were actually from my backyard! (ok, not THAT close, but same country!).

They did actually record their album at the time in LA – at none other than SOUND CITY STUDIOS!!!!! – released it on ROADRUNNER RECORDS!!!! and reached the top 10 charts on MTV in Europe.

Every few years this song pops in my head and many times before I looked for it on streaming to no avail…but that’s all changed now as I JUST – literally, just – found out they released an album FIVE YEARS AGO with a reimagined version of Daydream featuring gorgeous strings.

I must confess, I prefer the original but right now I’m just happy I can add any version of it to my playlists! And add I will. This song and a couple of others I was just listening to (which actually led me to TOYSHOP!)…watch this space. It may be this week, next month, in a few year’s time, who knows?! I AM keen on getting back to writing on here more often again so anything can happen.
